Introduction
Human Factors Engineering aka Ergonomics is the science dealing with the application of information on physical and psychological characteristics to the design of devices and systems for human use. Something that is ‘ergonomic’ is designed for safe, comfortable, and efficient use.
Anthropometrics
This is the study and record of human body measurements and their variations between gender, race and age. These measurements and their percentile ranges are critical and are central to the realization of tools/devices for human use. There are many records available but Movement use the following as its reference material;
PeopleSize 2008 Professional
Visual Anthropometrics Software

Intuitive Design
Apart from matching the realisation of a design to the appropriate physical measurement range for proper use it is also essential to understand the cognitive links your customer has with the device in question. The intuitiveness of the design and the resulting emotional link between your customer and the product is paramount. Just because a design fits into the hand neatly and is comfortable does not mean it is intuitive and easy to use. Movement know how to link the physical improvements with the psychological enhancements to deliver a market acceptable solution.
